I dunno. I wrote half a book over on LJ; I'm not so inclined here. Suffice it to say that I am short, round, fuzzy, and believe very very strongly in the power of communities, be they formed around music, motorcycles, fandom, or something else ineffable. Spider's Lemma is right: Shared pain is lessend; shared joy, increased. Thus do we refute entropy. Intellectually, this translates into Linus' Law: With enough eyeballs, all bugs are shallow. I believe that by creating community, and getting enough brains in one place, we can heal hurts bigger than ourselves, and solve problems no one thought possible. The real trick is not to get into a cult of personality while doing this. Mr. Torvalds seems to have this licked... I wonder if we can learn from his example.

Let's find out!

Technoshaman's corrolary to Spider's Lemma: Shared truth shall set us free. That's what this is really about, when push comes to shove. This journal is the truth as I see it... about me, about what's around me, about our world. "We will not walk in fear, one of another," said Edward R. Murrow. If we know the truth, there is no fear.

Speaking of Ed Murrow: The Supreme Court of the United States has decreed that, at least within this country, all of us are legally journalists. I encourage you to use that responsibility wisely, and frequently.

After nearly half a century, this ol' Bear is finally setting down, and enjoying things like time with kids, gentle snuggles, an actual house, and cats
